ABSTRACT

Nowadays, with the outbreak of COVID-19, the prevention and treatment of COVID-19 has gradually become the focus of social disease prevention, and most patients are also more concerned about the symptoms. COVID-19 has symptoms similar to the common cold, and it cannot be diagnosed based on the symptoms shown by the patient, so it is necessary to observe medical images of the lungs to finally determine whether they are COVID-19 positive. As the number of patients with symptoms similar to pneumonia increases, more and more medical images of the lungs need to be generated. At the same time, the number of physicians at this stage is far from meeting the needs of patients, resulting in patients unable to detect and understand their own conditions in time. In this regard, we have performed image augmentation, data cleaning, and designed a deep learning classification network based on the data set of COVID-19 lung medical images. accurate classification judgment. The network can achieve 95.76% classification accuracy for this task through a new fine-tuning method and hyperparameter tuning we designed, which has higher accuracy and less training time than the classic convolutional neural network model. © 2023 SPIE.

ABSTRACT

Objective To explore the sociodemographic and psychological factors influencing the continuity of treatment of patients with chronic kidney disease under the regular epidemic prevention and control of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). Methods A total of 277 patients with chronic kidney disease who were admitted to Department of Nephrology, The First Affiliated Hospital of Naval Medical University (Second Military Medical University) from Apr. 2020 to Mar. 2021 were enrolled and divided into 3 groups: non-dialysis group (n=102), hemodialysis (HD) group (n=108), and peritoneal dialysis (PD) group (n=67). All patients were investigated by online and offline questionnaires, including self-designed basic situation questionnaire, self-rating anxiety scale (SAS), and self-rating depression scale (SDS). The general sociodemographic data, anxiety and depression of the 3 groups were compared, and the influence of sociodemographic and psychological factors on the interruption or delay of treatment was analyzed by binary logistic regression model. Results There were significant differences in age distribution, marital status, occupation, medical insurance type, caregiver type, whether there was an urgent need for hospitalization and whether treatment was delayed or interrupted among the 3 groups (all P0.05). The average SAS score of 65 PD patients was 38.15+/-15.83, including 53 (81.5%) patients without anxiety, 7 (10.8%) patients with mild anxiety, and 5 (7.7%) patients with moderate to severe anxiety. The average SAS score of 104 patients in the HD group was 36.86+/-14.03, including 81 (77.9%) patients without anxiety, 18 (17.3%) patients with mild anxiety, and 5 (4.8%) patients with moderate to severe anxiety. There were no significant differences in the mean score of SAS or anxiety severity grading between the 2 groups (both P0.05). The mean SDS scores of 65 PD patients were 53.42+/-13.30, including 22 (33.8%) patients without depression, 21 (32.3%) patients with mild depression, and 22 (33.8%) patients with moderate to severe depression. The mean SDS scores of 104 patients in the HD group were 50.79+/-10.76, including 36 (34.6%) patients without depression, 56 (53.8%) patients with mild depression, and 12 (11.6%) patients with moderate to severe depression. There were no significant differences in mean SDS scores or depression severity grading between the 2 groups (both P0.05). The results of intra-group comparison showed that the incidence and severity of depression were higher than those of anxiety in both groups. Multivariate binary logistic regression analysis showed that high school education level (odds ratio OR=5.618, 95% confidence interval CI) 2.136-14.776, P0.01), and unmarried (OR=6.916, 95% CI 1.441-33.185, P=0.016), divorced (OR= 5.588, 95% CI 1.442-21.664, P=0.013), urgent need for hospitalization (OR=8.655, 95% CI 3.847-19.476, P0.01) could positively promote the continuity of treatment in maintenance dialysis patients under the regular epidemic prevention and control of COVID-19. In the non-dialysis group, no sociodemographic and psychological factors were found to be associated with the interruption or delay of treatment (P0.05). Conclusion Education, marital status, and urgent need for hospitalization are correlated with the continuity of treatment in patients with chronic kidney disease on maintenance dialysis.Copyright © 2022, Second Military Medical University Press. ABSTRACT

Restrictions during the COVID-19 pandemic significantly affected people's opportunities to engage in activities that are meaningful to their lives. In response to these constraints, many people, including older adults, turned to digital technologies as alternative ways to pursue meaningful activities. These technology-mediated activities, however, presented new challenges for older adults' everyday use of technology. In this paper, we investigate how older adults used digital technologies for meaningful activities during COVID-19 restrictions. We conducted in-depth interviews with 40 older adults and analyzed the interview data through the lens of self-determination theory (SDT). Our analysis shows that using digital technologies for meaningful activities can both support and undermine older people's three basic psychological needs for autonomy, competence, and relatedness. We argue that future technologies should be designed to empower older adults' content creation, engagement in personal interests, exploration of technology, effortful communication, and participation in beneficent activities. © 2023 ACM.

ABSTRACT

Cultures responded to the COVID-19 pandemic differently. We investigated cultural differences in mental health during the pandemic. We found regional differences in people's reports of anxiety in China over two years from 2020 to 2021 (N = 1186). People in areas with a history of rice farming reported more anxiety than people in wheat-farming areas. Next, we explored more proximal mechanisms that could help link the distal, historical factor of rice farming to people's modern experience of anxiety. Rice areas scored higher on collectivism and tight social norms than wheat areas, and collectivism, rather than norm tightness, mediated the rice-anxiety relationship. These findings advance our understanding of the distal sources of cultural differences, the proximal mechanisms, and mental health problems during the pandemics.

ABSTRACT

Based on the SEIR model, two compartments for self-protection and isolation are introduced, and a more general infectious disease transmission model is proposed.Through qualitative analysis of the model, the basic reproduction number of the model is calculated, and the local asymptotic stability of the disease-free equilibrium point and the endemic equilibrium point of the model is analyzed through eigenvalue theory and Routh-Hurwitz criterion.The numerical simulation and fitting results of COVID-19 virus show that the proposed SEIQRP model can effectively describe the dynamic transmission process of the infectious disease.In the model, the three parameters, i.e.protection rate, incubation period isolation rate, and infected person isolation rate play a very critical role in the spread of the disease.Raising people's awareness of self-protection, focusing on screening for patients in the incubation period, and isolating and treating infected people can effectively reduce the spread of infectious diseases. © 2023 Northeastern University.All rights reserved.

ABSTRACT

In efforts to curb the spread of COVID-19, many countries have implemented a variety of lockdown and quarantine measures. With substantially reduced face-to-face interactions, many people may have relied heavily on social media for connection, information, and entertainment. However, little is known about the psychological and physical health implications of social media use during strict lockdown. The current study investigates the associations of social media use with psychological well-being and physical health among Wuhan residents (N = 1214). Our findings showed that non-COVID related self-disclosure was positively associated with psychological well-being, while COVID related information consumption and sharing were negatively associated with psychological well-being. Further, more generic use of social media was associated with lower psychological well-being, which in turn related to more somatic symptoms. Quarantined people used social media more frequently than non-quarantined people. Importantly, the negative association between social media use and psychological well-being was significantly stronger for quarantined people than unquarantined people. ABSTRACT

The outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic forced students to move from face-to-face learning to online learning. Online learning has high demands on students' Self-regulated Learning (SRL) skills. In this study, a questionnaire that used five-point Likert scale was administrated between international African undergraduates and Chinese undergraduate students to investigate their online learning behaviors. The questionnaire was composed of six categories: environment structuring, goal setting, time management, help-seeking, task strategies, and self-evaluation. 441 valid responses were received, 89 from international African students and 352 from Chinese undergraduates. The collected data were analyzed with SPSS Version 24.0. The results showed that there was no significant difference between Chinese student' and international African students' SRL skills in the six sub-scales. This may be due to the small sample size of African students and the similar learning environment. Larger samples are needed in future research to further verify the conclusion. ABSTRACT

Introduction. Since March 2020, the introduction of a self-isolation regime and significant restrictions on personal contacts at work and school in connection with the COVID-19 pandemic has led to an expansion of the introduction of information technologies and a sharp restriction of direct interpersonal communication. The introduction of these restrictions has had a stressful effect on the body of both workers and students of various age groups, including young people. For a successful analysis of the impact of COVID-19 restrictions on the psychophysiological state of these categories of young workers and students, it seems appropriate to assess the state of maladaptation, self-assessment of nervous and somatic well-being. The study aims to assess the impact on the adaptive psychophysiological parameters of young trade workers and students of the changed working and study conditions against the background of the COVID–19 epidemic situation (self-isolation). Materials and methods. The object of the study was two groups of people who have a wide range of communication with colleagues and people around them, but differ in the content of their activities: students and trade workers. Scientists have conducted the study in two stages: before the pandemic (2013) and during the pandemic (December 2020) due to drastic changes in the algorithm of existence and work/study. We have examined 119 students aged 20–24 years (RGSU). There were 61 people at the first stage of the study (2013), there were 58 people at the second stage (2020, December). The second group (trade workers): 66 people aged 20–29 years. At the first stage of the study (2013), 34 people were included, at the second stage — 32 people. Experts have carried out the assessment of the psychophysiological parameters of the examined according to the questionnaire of neuropsychiatric maladjustment (ONPD). The condition for inclusion in the groups in 2020–2021 is the absence of a history of transferred COVID-19. Results. During the tense epidemic situation (2019-2021), against the background of the spread of COVID-19 and forced self-isolation of all population groups, the lifestyle has radically changed. Face-to-face communication has been minimized, but communication using information technology in all spheres of life (daily life, study, work) has increased dramatically. The researchers found that among the surveyed population groups (students and sales workers), the spread of signs of mental discomfort increased. Limitations. The study was limited to a sample of age groups: 20–24 years for students, 20–29 years for trade workers (in both periods). Conclusion. The calculation of the odds ratio (OR) allowed us to establish with a high degree of confidence that signs of mental discomfort, including asthenic and depressive signals, were significantly more often recorded during the period of self-isolation in both study groups: for students who are on distance learning (December 2020 compared to 2013): the coefficient of OR=5.4, (χ2=14.7;p<0.001);for sales workers: coefficient OR=15.0;(χ2=9.5;p<0.001). Ethics. ABSTRACT

Delivery of self-amplifying mRNA (SAM) has high potential for infectious disease vaccination due to its self-adjuvanting and dose-sparing properties. Yet a challenge is the susceptibility of SAM to degradation and the need for SAM to reach the cytosol fully intact to enable self-amplification. Lipid nanoparticles are successfully deployed at incredible speed for mRNA vaccination, but aspects such as cold storage, manufacturing, efficiency of delivery, and the therapeutic window can benefit from further improvement. To investigate alternatives to lipid nanoparticles, a class of >200 biodegradable end-capped lipophilic poly(beta-amino ester)s (PBAEs) that enable efficient delivery of SAM in vitro and in vivo as assessed by measuring expression of SAM encoding reporter proteins is developed. The ability of these polymers to deliver SAM intramuscularly in mice is evaluated, and a polymer-based formulation that yields up to 37-fold higher intramuscular (IM) expression of SAM compared to injected naked SAM is identified. Using the same nanoparticle formulation to deliver a SAM encoding rabies virus glycoprotein, the vaccine elicits superior immunogenicity compared to naked SAM delivery, leading to seroconversion in mice at low RNA injection doses. These biodegradable nanomaterials may be useful in the development of next-generation RNA vaccines for infectious diseases.Copyright © 2023 The Authors. ABSTRACT

Background It is a challenge for pharmacy courses worldwide to combine theoretical knowledge with practical skills to equip students for their future practice. Computer-based simulation offers a way of building a bridge between theory and practice. In recent years, digital simulation has expanded rapidly as a new technique of virtual learning. The digital platform ''Pharmacy Simulator'' proposes computer-based encounters with virtual patients to train clinical and communication skills in a community pharmacy setting. However, during the COVID-19 pandemic, while students were digitally resilient and endured the endless challenges of online lectures, many were dealing with Zoom and screen fatigue. Purpose To investigate pharmacy students' acceptance of Pharmacy Simulator before and during a pandemic situation. This focuses on students' self-assessment and confidence in counselling after playing the scenarios on Pharmacy Simulator. Method Two cohorts of Master of Pharmacy students at The University of Western Australia played two scenarios on Pharmacy Simulator in 2019 (anaphylaxis and salbutamol) and 2021 (anaphylaxis and vaccination). A mixed-method analysis was performed with data from (i) qualitative semi-structured interviews carried out in 2019 pertaining to participants' acceptance of Pharmacy Simulator and in 2021 (ii) a questionnaire with 25 items derived from the interviews. The interviews were transcribed verbatim into electronic format with the data management assistance MAXQDA and analyzed inductively using the Framework Method. Questionnaire responses were analyzed in Microsoft Excel using descriptive statistics. Openended questions were evaluated inductively. Findings Data were collected from 20 interviews and 31 answered questionnaires. In 2019, participants reported that Pharmacy Simulator was a fun, engaging, and straightforward learning tool and, therefore, user-friendly. They reported the feedback at the end of the session to be most valuable. The platform was perceived to fill the gap between the theory from lectures and community pharmacy practice. In 2021, participants ''agreed'' (median: 4, on a 5-point Likert scale) with seven statements about Pharmacy Simulator's usability, such as it being a helpful tool for acquiring new knowledge. Participants' confidence in counselling regarding the scenario topics improved. One participant stated, ''It taught me more through trial and error''. Conclusion Pharmacy students reported similar acceptance levels of Pharmacy Simulator before and during the COVID-19 pandemic. The use of simulation during virtual patient encounters seems to facilitate the transfer from theory to practice, independently of learning conditions that were predominantly screen-based.

The COVID-19 pandemic accelerates e-commerce adoption, which naturally induces an expedited acceptance of innovative last-mile deliveries. Focusing on self-collection via parcel lockers technology, this study investigates consumers' behavioural change, maintenance and habit formation related to e-commerce deliveries in response to the pandemic. We use a survey instrument for data collection (n = 500) and structural equation modelling for data analysis. Anchored on the risk–attitude–norm–ability–self-regulation (RANAS) framework, this study found that risk, attitude, norm, ability and self-regulation factors related to using the contactless shopping-delivery channel lead to the formation of self-collection habits, and that the formation process is fully mediated by consumers' maintenance motivation to use the channel. Furthermore, consumers' online shopping habit partially mediates the relationship between the maintenance motivation and self-collection habit formation. Consumers who were already frequent online shoppers before the pandemic are less likely to pick up self-collection as a habit during the pandemic. Additionally, model comparisons are conducted which reveal the differentiated habit formation processes. The findings contribute to a theoretical understanding of the formation of delivery habit as driven by the pandemic. Practical implications are also created which guide logistics and e-commerce operators' interactions with consumers in the post-pandemic period.

ABSTRACT

Aims The study aimed to examine the nature and outcomes of social support for the well-being and quality of life (QoL) of adults with epilepsy. Methods The Australian Epilepsy Longitudinal Survey's 5 th Wave included the Medical Outcomes Study Modified Social Support Survey on four dimensions of social support and the QOLIE-31. Both numerical data and open-ended responses were analyzed quantitatively and qualitatively. A mixed method was used where quantitative analysis used t -tests, analysis of variance and block recursive regression, and qualitative analysis identified themes. Results Three-hundred thirty-two people with epilepsy (PWE) participated. The quantitative component showed that for emotional/informational support being older and living alone were key factors. These as well as household income were important in tangible support. For affectionate support living alone and household income were factors, but only income was a factor for positive social interaction. In addition, only positive social interaction predicted increased QoL. In the qualitative component of the study both positive and negative supports were identified for the emotional/informational supports. Many reported the benefits of having information, although some reported failure to have their needs taken seriously by health professionals or epilepsy associations. Inability to drive was an important feature of negative tangible support as was finding some assistive services unaffordable. Reports of positive social interaction identified being accepted as a person with epilepsy that is the primary concern. Peer support plays a role here. Discussion The findings of factors affecting the four dimensions of support in this study have supported a number of studies. This includes the effects of positive social interaction on QoL. The qualitative analysis supports these results, but it also contributes to deeper understanding of support in the lives of PWE. Conclusion Social support is a particularly important issue for PWE. The results of this study demonstrate the complexities and benefits of obtaining the appropriate forms of support. This survey took place before the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic and it may well be that this phenomenon affects PWE's support needs. Copyright © 2023. Indian Epilepsy Society. ABSTRACT

Helping professionals promote self-care amongst their clients: a proactive practise that enhances personal well-being. Yet, many struggle to engage in self-care personally which can lead to adverse health consequences and burnout. To date, little is known about helping professionals' views on self-care as it relates to personal and professional practise: especially during a worldwide pandemic where the demand for health-oriented services is amplified. Certified Professional Co-Active Coaches (CPCCs) are poised to offer unique insights into this phenomenon given their inherent focus on enriching client well-being. The purpose of this descriptive study was to explore CPCCs' experiences related to coaching practise and self-care during the COVID-19 pandemic. Semi-structured interviews were used, and data were analysed using an inductive approach. Twelve CPCCs (10 = female) participated. Four main themes emerged: a shift in practise;changes in clients;personal self-care practises;and professional self-care practises. Therapeutic empathy and setting emotional boundaries were identified as valuable coaching strategies. Participants also highlighted the need for intentional self-care routines to care effectively for themselves and others. Taken together, these findings may be transferable to other helping professionals, training bodies, and clients through an enhanced understanding of self-care during times of crises. ABSTRACT

ObjectiveGrowing evidence shows that online mental health interventions for university students are a cost-effective means for addressing mental health problems among university students. This study presents data on the numbers and characteristics of students who engaged in an online mental health promotion intervention called YOLO in the context of a university-wide rollout of the program before and after the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.MethodsParticipants completed a questionnaire assessing socio-demographics and mental health (wellbeing and distress). A total of 240 students accessed the program over a 12-month period and of these, 164 provided reliable data.ResultsYOLO was accessed by students representing diverse socio-demographics including domestic vs. international student status, degree level, faculty, ethnicity, and age, although there was an over-representation of females (77.2%). Students who accessed YOLO pre-COVID-19 did not substantially differ across most mental health dimensions from those who accessed it during-COVID-19, although more students reported mild-moderate anxiety symptoms during-COVID than pre-COVID-19. The only socio-demographics significantly associated with mental health were age and degree level. Younger age was related to higher anxiety and 3(rd) and 4(th) year undergraduate students reported poorer mental health comparative to students in other years. Additionally, a higher proportion of these students accessed YOLO during-COVID-19 than at pre-COVID-19.ConclusionThe present data along with findings from other studies that have evaluated YOLO, suggest that online mental health promotion programs that do not require in-person contact are an important and necessary resource for all university students.

ABSTRACT

The COVID-19 pandemic instantly changed the day-to-day practices of the criminal justice system. The court system, traditionally reliant on face-to-face interaction, had to quickly alter operations to decrease the virus' spread while remaining functional as an integral role in the criminal justice system. The current exploratory study examines the response strategies U.S. court systems implemented, impacts on case processing, case backlogs, and additional consequences endured due to the pandemic. Using responses from self-report surveys of court staff (e.g., judges, clerks), results indicated that courts prioritized the types of cases heard and implemented multiple mitigation strategies that were deemed effective, some of which may be sustainable post-pandemic. Despite an increase in virtual jury trials and hearings, many courts saw a surge in backlogged cases and complications in assembling juries. The overall findings may inform judiciary policy and practice concerning short and long-term pandemic outcomes on court processing and future pandemic preparedness.

Introduction: The right to pre-professional practices protected under Peruvian Law allows the student in the last year of the human medicine career to begin to participate in health care procedures and interventions under the guidance of a tutor. Objective: to determine the factors associated with low knowledge of biosafety in medical interns at a university in Peru in the context of the covid-19 pandemic. Methods: an observational, prolective and cross-sectional design was carried out. The sample consisted of 336 human medicine interns, who were selected by simple random probabilistic sampling. A valid and reliable instrument was used to determine the level of knowledge in biosafety. A bivariate and multiple logarithmic binary regression model was used to calculate the crude and adjusted prevalence ratio with their respective 95% confidence intervals for the factors associated with the level of knowledge in biosafety. Results: high, medium and low levels of knowledge of 44.6%, 26.8% and 28.6% respectively were found. Married marital status (RPA 0.418, 95% CI 0.181 – 0.968), living with people at risk for severe symptoms from covid-19 (RPA 0.472, 95% CI 0.344–0.647), undergoing medical internship in a hospital, and having been diagnosed by covid-19 in the last 12 months (RPA 0.586, 95% CI 0.387–0.887) were associated with a level of knowledge under biosafety by multiple logarithmic binary regression model. Discussion: married marital status, living with people at risk for severe symptoms of covid-19, undergoing medical internship in a hospital center and having been diagnosed with covid-19 have an inversely proportional relationship with low knowledge in biosafety. Purpose: The purpose of this study is twofold. First, this study reflects on the development of professional capital through understanding collective cultural factors, namely, academic optimism and shared vision. Second, it aims at exploring teacher learning. Teacher learning resulting in changes to teacher knowledge, attitudes and practices is crucial for the necessary changes education is continually confronted with. This learning is too often studied as a result of individual traits or structural factors, such as motivation or time. The authors investigated how teacher learning is influenced by academic optimism and shared vision. Design/methodology/approach: The authors administered an online web-based survey to 278 teachers in higher education, using the educational change to online learning due to the COVID pandemic as a unique chance to study the role of collective cultural factors in teacher learning. Findings: Results showed how teachers characterized their learning, academic optimism and shared vision during the educational change to online learning resulting from the COVID pandemic. The authors found that teacher learning was greatly influenced by teachers' collective sense of efficacy, an aspect of their academic optimism. Teachers' strong belief in each other, that they as fellow professionals could handle the challenging changes that the COVID pandemic required, strongly enhanced teacher learning during the COVID pandemic. Teachers' feeling of a professional community helped teacher to make sense of, and push through, the undeniable chaos that was the COVID pandemic. Originality/value: Collective cultural factors are rarely studied in conjunction with educational change. Insights into how a collective culture of professionalism enhances or hinders teacher learning are important for theory, policy and practice as it helps understand how teacher teams can be supported to build their professional capital by learning from educational change.

ABSTRACT

Background: Studies suggest perinatal infection with SARSCoV- 2 can induce adverse birth outcomes, but studies published to date have substantial limitations. Most have identified cases based upon their presentation for clinical care, and very few have examined pandemic-related stress which may also impact adverse birth outcomes. Objective(s): To evaluate the relationships between SARSCoV- 2 infection in pregnancy and pandemic-related stress with birth outcomes. Study Design: We conducted an observational study of 211 mother-newborn dyads in three urban cohorts participating in the Environmental Influences on Child Health Outcomes (ECHO) Program. Serology for SARS-CoV-2 was assessed in a convenience sample of prenatal maternal, cord serum or dried blood spots from births occurring between January 2020-September 2021. Specimens were assessed for IgG, IgM, and IgA antibodies to nucleocapsid, S1 spike, S2 spike, and receptor-binding domain. A Pandemic-related Traumatic Stress (PTS) scale was based on the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, 5th Edition Acute Stress Disorder criteria. Result(s): 36% were positive for at least one antibody type, chiefly IgG. Self-report of infection was not significantly correlated with combined serology. There were no differences in gestational age (GA), birth weight, preterm birth (PTB), or low birth weight (LBW) among seropositive mothers. However, IgM seropositive mothers had children with lower BW (434g, 95% CI: 116- 752), BW Z score-for-GA (0.73 SD, 95% CI 0.10-1.36) and were more likely to deliver preterm (OR 8.75, 95% CI 1.22-62.4). Associations with LBW sustained in sensitivity analyses limited to pre-vaccine samples, and PTS symptoms were not associated with birth outcomes. The addition of PTS did not substantially change associations with BW, although associations with PTB attenuated to near-significance. Conclusion(s): We identified decreased birth weight and increased prematurity in mothers IgM seropositive to SARS-CoV-2, independent of PTS. Though there are limits to interpretation, the data support efforts to prevent SARS-CoV-2 infections in pregnancy.

ABSTRACT

The recent Covid-19 pandemic has created many challenges and barriers in healthcare, which includes the treatment and management of patients with type 2 diabetes (Robson & Hosseinzadeh, 2021). The purpose of this Evidence-Based Project (EBP) project is to evaluate the effectiveness of type 2 diabetes management through telehealth and answers the following PICOT question: In patients with diabetes type 2 who have difficulties with medical visit compliance (P), will the telehealth platform (I), compared to patient's previous visit HbA1c (C) improve the Hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) diagnostic marker (O) over a 12-week period(T)? An extensive literature search of five databases was performed, citation chasing, and a hand search yielded fourteen pieces of evidence ranging from level I to VI (Melnyk & Fineout-Overholt, 2019). The pieces of evidence selected for this project support the evidence that telehealth implementation is as effective as the "usual care" or in-person visits to treat type 2 diabetes. The John Hopkins Nursing Evidence-Based Practice (JHNEBP) model was selected. Patients with a HbA1c of greater than 6.7% have been asked to schedule two six-week telehealth visits. During the live video visit, a review of medications, and diabetes self-management education (DSME) will be conducted. Participants will be provided with education to promote lifestyle modifications. The visits will be conducted through an Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system that is Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) compliant. A paired t-Test will be used with the data collected from the pre-and post-HbA1c. Improve the management of type 2 diabetes with the incorporation of telemedicine in primary care. Research supports the need to further expand the use of telehealth in primary care, to improve patient outcomes and decrease co-morbidities related to type 2 diabetes.

ABSTRACT

Early into the cOVID-iota 9 pandemic, abortion rights advocates highlighted the importance of maintaining access to abortion through telemedicine. It was argued that telemedical and self-managed abortion was, in the pandemic context, a human rights imperative. This article argues that providing for telemedical and self-managed abortion remains a human rights imperative beyond the duration of the pandemic. Telemedical and self-managed abortion is safe and effective, supports the pregnant person's preferences and reproductive autonomy, and minimises many of the physical and structural barriers faced by pregnant people in accessing abortion services. International and European human rights standards access to abortion require states to take positive measures to guarantee access to abortion, and this article argues that such measures include telemedical and self-managed abortion.
